What to expect…
How I work & why…
Your privacy, confidentiality and comfort is always priority. We’ll meet in therapeutic and relaxing surroundings. You’ll never feel compelled to do or say anything that goes against your core values or beliefs. Be assured that during hypnotherapy you cannot and will not ever say or do anything that you wouldn’t feel comfortable sharing with me outside of hypnosis. You can be assured that I’ll always have your best interests and goals at the forefront of our work together.
You’ll be in a safe, caring and non-judgemental environment. Being open and honest will enhance your therapeutic journey and the efficacy of our work together. Whilst we get to know one another you’ll gain a better understanding of what the process will entail. You really should only work with a therapist that you feel comfortable with. I can help you make significant changes to your life & lifestyle, overcome addiction, change habits, work on stress & anxiety related issues, manage your weight and free yourself of a phobia.
Codes of ethics
You can be reassured that I follow all of the codes of ethics set out by the GHR http://www.general-hypnotherapy-register.com/code-of-ethics/ & General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guide-to-the-general-data-protection-regulation Giving you peace of mind that all of your confidential information will remain that way.
The importance of the initial consultation
We’re all individual so what works for one person doesn’t necessarily work for another. We all think differently so what drives one person doesn’t necessarily work for another. One therapy doesn’t fit all. So, we need to fully explore all the drives, triggers, emotions, cognitions and behaviours of the issue you wish to change. I’m then able to tailor a therapeutic plan just for you. The great thing about solution focused Hypnotherapy is that you don’t get stuck in all of the detail of what you don’t want as this makes you feel bad. The aim is to start changing your thinking right from the initial session.
We’ll fully explore your reasons for attending Hypnotherapy. I’ll ask you lots of questions some will seem relevant some not so, all I ask is that you trust in the process.
My aim is to complete any paperwork prior to our meeting so our time together is all about you. This is one of the most important sessions as from this I’m able to create your therapeutic plan of action, tailored to meet your needs. Whatever the issue we’ll fully investigate it so I’m able to create a Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time specific (SMART) course of action to meet your desired outcome, goal. My aim is that after your first session you’ll leave my office having felt an emotional shift for the better. During this session I’ll be able to dispel any misconceptions about Hypnosis so you’ll leave my office feeling good about us working together. You’ll receive a personalised recording to reinforce your face to face session.
This isn’t a passive experience, not in the office or at home. Sadly, I’ve not found a magic wand that works yet. However, I’ve discovered some great techniques that will help you make significant changes. Between sessions you’ll be given a recording to backup the therapeutic work that takes place face to face. Listening to your recordings & fully engaging with your therapy is extremely important as this reinforces all of the work we do together whilst speeding up the change process. Saving you money and time in the long run. You’ll learn some great new coping skills that you’ll be able to use time and time again.
Number of sessions
How many sessions will it take? This is a very common question. During the complimentary consultation I ask clients to commit to six hours of therapy. I monitor your progress and encourage you to reflect on our progress this helps to determine how we move forward. Most clients find six hours are enough but for some we may need to extend this depending on the complexity of the presenting issues.
Some clients choose to work on something else after reaching their initial goal. For example one client after stopping smoking felt empowered to work on a phobia of flying so he could go on holiday with his family. This is common, often when people achieve things they never thought possible they want to work on other limiting cognitions & behaviours.
This is a short term therapy so we agree six hours. Most clients achieve their goal in three sessions so six hours generally tends to be enough. You’ll learn some great new life skills and coping strategies that I’m sure you’ll use time and time again.
Clients often find the process so empowering that they come back to work on other issues.
Should you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me by email or phone I’ll be happy to help.
